Fire Boots

For the brave men and women who spend their careers fighting fires, cutting people out of their wrecked vehicles and saving lives there is nothing more important than having the right safety gear. These men and women spend many hours of their lives on their feet in all manner of conditions. This means that the fire boots that they choose not only have to be serviceable, but they must provide the right level of comfort and support. For many years the traditional fire boots have been a basic pair of heavy duty pull on rubber boots. These boots were chosen for several reasons, the most important being that they were waterproof. They have always been chosen for one more very practical reason; they are easy to pull on. Firefighters do no spend their down time in their turnout gear as this would be impractical to say the least and very uncomfortable. When the alarm sounds a firefighter must be able to completely suit up in less than a minute in order to maintain the approved training standard.

This means that his fire boots have to be easy to pull on, if he had to deal with laces this would not be possible. You also have to consider the fact that laces can catch fire and cause the firefighter serious injuries, not from burns but from boots that become loose and may cause him to stumble or fall. Modern fire boots have advanced significantly starting many years ago with the addition of steel toe reinforcements to protect the toes from falling objects or damage from kicking things. Steel shanks were added to protect the arch and sole while special anti slip materials were developed to make it safer and easier to walk in wet or slippery environment. Most of them now feature yellow trim and reflective stripes to make them easy to spot in the dark for added safety. Rubber is no longer the only material used to create fire boots as some firefighters prefer the feel and strength of leather.

This style of boot is available in pull on styles for structural firefighters and in lace up style for the firefighters who spend their lives fighting wild fires out in the brush where there is no real need for speed in putting them on. When a person is fighting fires out in the brush strength and support are far more important making lace on leather boots a much better choice.
