- Do not touch anything pertaining to fire! This includes, but is not limited to, lighters and matches, candles, firecrackers, and fire itself! If your child finds any of these things, teach them to never touch them and to tell the nearest trusted adult so they can safely be removed from reach.
- If you or your child/children happens to catch on fire - Stop, drop and roll! These simple actions will help put the fire that is on your clothes out and help ensure minimal damage to your body. Teach your child/children to yell for help while they are rolling on the ground, but to never run while on fire because it can make the flames bigger!
- Make sure your child knows where fire extinguishers are located and how to use them. Another important fire safety tip is to have a smoke detector in all rooms of the house and regularly test them and replace their batteries to make sure they are in working order. Also, teach your child how to dial 911 in case of an emergency where an adult is not around or has become injured.
