Top Reasons to Own a Pair of Safety Glasses

Much like bicycle helmets, safety glasses only work when they're worn. Some people resist wearing adequate eye protection because they think it's not stylish or because they interfere with existing eyewear. Recognizing this, safety glasses manufacturers have created a huge range of stylistic and functional options, from wrap around sunglasses to goggles to facemasks. Most optometrists can readily recommend a safety glass for prescription eyewear as well, so there really is no excuse for inadequate protection.
Safety glasses generally aren't expensive, and it's a good idea to have a few sets lying around where you can find them. Whenever you're working on a project, take a moment to reflect whether your eyes are in any danger. Carefully check any labels on products you are using to see whether they recommend eye protection. Regardless of your confidence level, power tools should never be used without safety glasses.
Remember, it takes very little to permanently damage an eye. A metal shard, a slipped blade, a splash of chemical cleaner, or any of a thousand unforeseen accidents are all that it takes to cause serious harm. Even if you've never had an accident before, it can take only one unexpected slip to change your life. Safety glasses exist that are inexpensive, stylish, lightweight, and comfortable. Buy a pair or two, then be sure to wear them!
