Fire Prevention Begins At Home
Posted by Bryan on 11/24/2012
It is important to teach children early on what the dangers of fire are and to prevent it from happening. At the home, it is necessary for parents and guardians to baby proof the home in order to ensure that babies and toddlers cannot mess around with the stove knobs or the wall outlets. There should always be a fire extinguisher in the home especially in the area around the kitchen.
Whether it’s an apartment or house, there should always be a smoke detector because this is essential in letting the occupants of the home know that a fire could break out. The smoke detectors should be placed in sleeping areas as well and should be loud enough for all to hear. The device will usually emit small beeping sounds to signal that the battery needs to be changed.
A fire safety plan should always be in place especially in day care centers and schools. These are ideal in acting as a guide on what to do in the case of fire. Most schools and businesses are now actively engaged in drills which show how to proceed in the event of fire. These are conducted because without proper knowledge, people can end up trampling on each other while on their way out or head to the elevators which should never be used.
Being prepared is the best way when on the fire safety topic. Parents should engage their children in topics related to fires and teach them on how to behave. Any issues and concerns from the children should be addressed immediately.
