What to Look For in a Fire Fighting Helmet
Posted by John Feld on 10/15/2013
Feld Fire offers several styles and helmet types to suit the needs of fire fighters. Your choice of fire-fighting helmet depends on your preference of material and your main purpose for the helmet.
Leather helmets, like Feld Fire's line of Phenix leather helmets, are made almost entirely of leather with a thermoplastic dome resistant to high temperatures. These helmets have a large brim to shield your face from water and debris of everyday fires.
Composite helmets, also called structural helmets, are more streamlined than leather helmets and are made of fiberglass composite or hard thermoplastic. These helmets include goggles or a face shield on the front and are best geared for structural collapses and extractions.
You must also decide what accessories to include in your helmet; each includes a chin strap to keep the helmet secure. Choose between goggles or a face shield to protect your eyes and face and sewn-in or detachable ear flaps. Look for a helmet with a good liner to protect your neck from heat and flames. You also have a choice of colors and designs on a variety of helmets, including ornamental eagles and commemorative 9-11 designs.
Fire-fighting helmets not only serve a life-saving purpose, but they also serve different practical functions and express your personality and preferences. Keep in mind your preferred materials, main functions and the variety of available designs when choosing your fire-fighting helmet. Feld Fire's full line of fire-fighting helmets offers options for everyone.
