Carrying On: Always Having the Tools of the Fire Fighting Trade
Posted by Bryan on 4/9/2013
to Fire Equipment
Fire fighting equipment can range from the turnout and bunker gear the fire fighters wear to protect their bodies to the helmets and boots used to provide additional protection. It is also essential for tools to be on hand and ready to be used at a moments notice to assist with breaking windows, removing doors from buildings, cutting through metal and various other situations that require hand and power tools to perform required functions.
A fire fighter must understand the importance of having the right fire fighting equipment on hand, on the rig and in a go bag to be as prepared as possible. This typically results in larger tools and equipment being kept on trucks and utility vehicles and smaller items kept in fire fighter gear bags that are brought along on all calls. It is that right mix of tools, equipment and gear that helps to ensure every disaster or situation attended to by a fire fighter will have the fire fighting equipment ready to go so that the fire fighter can get the job done as quickly and effectively as possible.
